The origins of Panettone
Panettone and its origins!
A true Italian national emblem, panettone was born in the 1400s, in Milan. During the Christmas holidays, it was the favorite pastry of artisan bakers and housewives. At the time, it was made with precious products including white flour, candied fruits, honey, sugar, butter and grapes. You should know that at that time white flour was a real luxury reserved for the bourgeois class.
Panettone was therefore a very precious bread which was eaten after the religious rituals of Christmas. From the 20th century, this bread began to be popular and thus became a national symbol of Christmas cake. Over the years, it has been propelled throughout the planet, and is now enjoyed in many forms and aromas.
The characteristics of panettone
Panettone is characterized by an octagonal base or star-shaped section. Its height is between 12 and 30 cm. The main ingredients are milk, flour, sugar, fresh eggs, candied fruit and sourdough. To this day, we still do not know who the real inventor is. On the other hand, what is certain is that panettone delights consumers across the globe and represents the pride of pastry chefs.
Nolita's choice
For several years we have been offering panettone from the family business Fraccaro Spumadoro, located in the Treviso region of Veneto. What we like about Fraccaro is that it is still possible to breathe the same atmosphere and the same scents of 90 years ago, and perceive the same values of simplicity, authenticity and sharing as the we find in a family: here the products have the scent of childhood and the taste of authenticity. It is a true confectionery company of national importance and a great pastry shop with a family tradition.
